The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for winning the ICC Women’s World Cup for the first time and bringing pride to the nation.
During the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the proposal to officially congratulate the team was approved. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, praised the team’s outstanding achievement and expressed joy over India’s remarkable success on the world stage.
The Cabinet also announced cash rewards for players from Maharashtra who were part of the winning squad — Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Radha Yadav — in recognition of their contribution to this historic victory.
A historic moment in World Cup history was recorded as the Indian women’s team clinched the ODI Women`s World Cup 2025 title.
The Indian women’s cricket team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling summit clash at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.
Following the historic triumph, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India by saying that the win will inspire millions of youngsters.
Speaking at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, PM Modi said, “This event is related to science. But first, I will talk about India`s spectacular victory in cricket. All of India is overjoyed with the success of its cricket team. This is India`s first Women`s World Cup. I congratulate our women`s cricket team. We are proud of you. Your success will inspire millions of young people across the country.”
Deepti Sharma was the most successful bowler for the hosts. Bowling 9.3 overs, she bagged five wickets for 39 runs. Shafali Verma claimed two wickets by conceding 36 runs in seven overs. Whereas Nallapureddy Charani also picked up one wicket for 48 runs in nine overs.
