Konkona Sensharma has been one of the underrated artists in the Industry. The actress has been excelling at entertaining the fans with her varied characters that go much deeper than what they appear on screen. In an exclusive segment, Sit With Hitlist with Mayank Shekhar, Konkona shares an interesting anecdote on how she picked her surname.
Konkona on her family asking her to decide what surname she would take
Konkona is known for being a little away from the constantly updated showbiz world; the actress chooses to distance herself from the buzz time and again. While talking about her personality, she shared that it hasn`t changed since her childhood; she follows the same values, “I have been the same since I was 9 years old; the values haven`t changed. I may have become a bit smarter, slightly hardened, and more confident. But the values remain the same for me as they were when I was 9.”
Konkona uses both her parents Aparna Sen and Mukul Sharma`s surnames as one; the actress revealed the anecdote behind it, “I do use Sen Sharma as one word now, as it is easier and quicker. That is the thing about my parents and grandparents. They were very cool, they never infantilised me and treated me like a sovereign identity of my own.”
Interestingly, Konkona quips that she chose both only to not upset her parents; however, it did have a fun impact on her school and college career as her name was often mispronounced by her folks, teachers and others, “I was probably 4 or 5 when they asked me `Do you want to be Konkona Sen or Konkona Sharma`. I thought, Why not have both? I felt like if I picked one, either of my parents would feel bad. And then I had to live with this long name for the rest of my life. My college career, my entire school career, they would mispronounce my name. It has been quite a journey.”
Konkona Sensharma shared how they decided on son Haroon`s surname
Konkona Sensharma also shared what went behind choosing her son Haroon`s surname on whether he would take her long name or go with Ranvir Shorey. She revealed, “We decided just to stick with Shorey. It didn`t make sense to me. If I do Sen Sharma, it isn`t my mom`s maiden name. And if they wanted to take on the last name of the spouse, the name wouldn`t end. Having done that to myself, I asked him if he could add a middle name if he wants later, but till then let`s just keep Haroon Shorey.”
