Hundreds of stranded residents were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force from Beed, Dharashiv and other adjoining areas after heavy rains lashed parts of state, officials said.
According to the NDRF, constant heavy rainfall across several districts of Maharashtra has led to a flood-like situation in some districts of the state. In response to the request by the local administration, teams of the NDRF have been deployed in Beed, Dharashiv, and Solapur districts under the close supervision of Unit Commandant Santosh Bahadur Singh.
NDRF personnel have been carrying out rescue and relief operations since Monday night and the officials have rescued hundreds of people in overnight operations, it said.
“The rescue operations continue in parts of the state,” said an official.
Rescue operations by NDRF so far
In Beed district, the NDRF rescued 39 people from flood-affected areas, including a newborn baby and a woman trapped by rising waters in the Sadas Chinchole area of Majalgaon tehsil, it said.
Amid relentless rainfall across the Marathwada region, twelve gates of the Manjara Dam in Beed district were reportedly opened on Tuesday after the reservoir reached full capacity, triggering a flood-like situation in downstream areas and cutting off several villages. Located at Dhanegaon in Kaij tehsil, the Manjara Dam touched 100 per cent storage, prompting the release of water. By Tuesday morning, six gates were opened by three metres, followed by the opening of six additional gates by 0.25 metres later in the day, officials said.
In Dharashiv district, the team rescued 182 people from Kapilapuri village, where severe flooding trapped residents inside their homes, the NDRF said.
It said that the situation in Solapur district remained serious. The NDRF rescued 82 people and helped move domestic animals to safer places.
In Ahilyanagar district, rescue efforts began in the evening, and so far 17 people have been saved in Karjat tehsil, the officials said.
“The timely deployment and swift action of NDRF teams have been widely appreciated by the local administration and affected residents, who credited their efforts for preventing major loss of life. The operation reflects the NDRF’s dedication, patriotism, and selfless service,” an official said.
