From coach to creature: Rachit Singh gets his big Bollywood break with Thamma

Last Diwali, Rachit Singh got his big Bollywood break when producer Amar Kaushik offered him a role in Thamma. A year later, on Diwali again, he watched himself on the big screen in the Ayushmann Khurrana–Rashmika Mandanna starrer. “From last Diwali to this Diwali, it’s been amazing,” he smiles. Even though the actor waited for 10 years for this moment, when it happened, it felt out of the blue, he tells us.

An acting coach by profession, Singh has trained actors for Munjya (2024) and Sky Force. Kaushik, who met him at a social gathering, called with a surprise offer. “He called me, saying. ‘Do you want to do this film called Thamma?’ I said, ‘Yes sir. Who am I coaching?’ And he replied, ‘No coaching. I want to cast you as Veeran.’ I was shocked. It was very random but special because I have no idea which moment triggered him to believe I could do this,” says Singh, who plays a vampire in Aditya Sarpotdar’s film, a part of Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe (MCHU).

Though Thamma drew mixed reviews and comparisons with Stree 2, Singh prefers to focus on the positives. “I’m in the Rs 100 crore club!” he chuckles. “It’s the first standalone film in the universe, building its own world of vampires. The audience [will grow] — it’s all for the bigger picture.”

As he awaits his next project, there is much focus on his personal life. But Singh remains mum on the rumours of his engagement with Huma Qureshi. The actor tells us he likes to keep his personal life private. “I don’t like to talk about it because it’s between two people. It’s very beautiful. [But] I don’t want to discuss it, whatever it is,” he says adding, “It could be about my mom or sister. Why to discuss my family? Kaam ki baatein karte hain.”
