Four injured as speeding car crashes into pedestrians on footpath in Mumbai

Four people were injured after a speeding car crashed into them on a footpath in the eastern suburbs in Mumbai on Saturday morning, police said, reported news agency PTI.

The accident occurred at LBS Marg in Ghatkopar around 6.30 am, an official said.

He said a speeding car lost control and veered onto the footpath, crashing into four people, one of whom is said to be in a critical condition.

The CCTV footage showed two women and a man stepping out of the vehicle, and the man fled the spot, the official said, adding that the women were taken into custody, reported PTI.

The police recovered liquor bottles from the vehicle, and it is suspected that the accused were in an inebriated state at the time of the accident, the official said, reported PTI.

The police were in the process of registering a case and a search has been launched for the absconding accused, he said.

Driver, Class IX student dead, three injured as van hits bus on Nagpur flyover

In another incident, the driver of a school van and a Class IX student were killed after the vehicle collided with a bus on a flyover in Maharashtra`s Nagpur city on Friday, police said, reported PTI.

The accident occurred on the Mankapur flyover around 8.30 am, when the van entered the wrong lane and hit an empty bus of another school, an official said.

“The van driver, Hrithik Kanojia (24), died during treatment at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMC). Sanvi Khobragade, a Class IX student of Bhavan`s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Koradi Road Branch, succumbed to injuries at Max hospital this evening,” he said, reported PTI.

Three other students were injured and their condition is stable as per doctors, the Mankapur police station official said.

“The collision left the van, which entered the wrong lane, damaged, trapping several students inside. Passersby rescued the children and rushed them to nearby hospitals. The bus driver and attendants escaped unhurt. The bus was empty,” the official added, reported PTI.

A case has been registered and a probe was underway, he said.
