A fire broke out at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC’s) gas processing facility in Navi Mumbai on Monday afternoon, affecting gas supply to parts of Mumbai.
According to police, the blaze broke out around 3 pm at ONGC’s Uran plant in Raigad district. ONGC’s fire brigade managed to douse the flames after nearly two hours.
“There is no report of any injury to anyone in the fire,” a Uran Police officer said.
Videos and photos from the site showed plumes of thick smoke and massive flames, triggering panic among local residents. The exact cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet.
The Uran facility is a key integrated oil and gas processing unit that handles crude oil and natural gas from offshore fields, converting them into stabilised crude, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other products.
Following the incident, the Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) said supply to its City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala was affected. In a statement, the company assured that supply to domestic PNG (piped natural gas) consumers would be maintained on priority without interruption.
However, MGL cautioned that if pressure further drops at its CGS, several stations across Mumbai may remain non-operational due to low pressure in the pipeline. Industrial and commercial customers have been advised to switch to alternate fuel.
MGL added that gas supplies across its network will normalise once ONGC restores natural gas supply.
One dead, 19 injured after massive fire breaks out in 23-storey building in Mumbai`s Dahisar
One person died and 19 others were injured after a mssive fire broke out on the 7th floor of 23-storey building in Mumbai`s Dahisar area, the officials said on Sunday.
They said that a major firefighting operation was launched at the spot and 36 residents were rescued from the building. 20 people were shifted to the hospital among those a woman was declared dead.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the fire started in the electric duct, affecting wiring and electric cables from the ground to the 4th floor.
The fire broke out Sunday afternoon in a high-rise residential building located in New Jankalyan Society located at the Shanti Nagar area on S.V. Road in Dahisar (East).
The incident was first reported at 3:05 pm, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) said.
Following the information regarding the blaze, officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and launched a fire fighting operation.
