Farhan Akhtar breaks silence on Jee le Zaraa getting shelved: `It was stressful`

Jee Le Zaraa was one of Farhan Akhtar’s most anticipated projects. However, after its announcement, the film never saw the light of day due to several reasons. In a recent interview, Farhan recalled how stressful it was when the film didn’t take off. He also shared that he had turned down many opportunities to focus entirely on the project.

Farhan Akhtar on Jee Le Zaraa

While speaking to YouTuber Samdish, Farhan revealed, “My film Toofan was released in 2021, and right after that, I was set to direct a film called Jee Le Zaraa. It just kept getting delayed, and for those two years, I kept saying no to all other opportunities that came my way. I did that because when you have to direct, you can only focus on that. If an acting role came, I told them, ‘No, I am soon going to be directing’.”

The filmmaker and actor further added, “It was such a stressful period because I thought that I was wasting time, and before I knew it, two and a half years had gone by. There are some personal insecurities as well. I started feeling that maybe people will think that I’m not able to direct anymore. It had been 12 years since I had directed a film, and maybe people would doubt my skills. When you sit with a therapist and you talk about these things, you start realising where all this is coming from. Because I didn’t want to say, ‘Let me move on from this film.’”

Jee Le Zaraa was touted to be a road-trip film similar to the hit Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol. The film was announced in 2021 with Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif as the leads. However, it was delayed, with early reports suggesting scheduling conflicts.

Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming movies

Farhan recently appeared in 120 Bahadur, which he also produced. The historical war drama features him as Major Shaitan Singh, alongside Raashii Khanna, Vivan Bhatena and Ankit Siwach. The film recounts the Battle of Rezang La — one of the major battles of the Sino-Indian War.

His next directorial venture is Don 3, starring Ranveer Singh. However, there has been no update on the film after Kiara Advani and Vikrant Massey reportedly backed out.
