Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal on Friday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of running the state in a “cold-blooded” and indifferent manner, particularly towards the suffering of farmers, news agency PTI reported.
Sapkal alleged that the BJP-led government has shown little concern for the ongoing communal tensions in the state and has failed to address the distress of farmers impacted by recent floods and unseasonal rains.
Referring to Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil’s reported statement that farm loan waivers are only promised during elections to win votes, Sapkal said it exposed the government’s true mindset.
As per PTI, Sapkal said, “The message is loud and clear, farmers can suffer, ministers can say anything, communities can remain divided, and yet the Chief Minister keeps pushing his political agenda without a shred of remorse.”
Opposition parties, including the Congress, have been demanding a loan waiver for affected farmers, but Sapkal claimed the government has shown no urgency.
In a controversial remark, Sapkal compared Fadnavis’s style of governance to the actions of Nathuram Godse, stating, “Just as Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi in cold blood, this government is operating with the same cold-blooded intent, silently, but destructively.”
Sanjay Raut says, `Maharashtra government not serious about flood relief situation in Marathwada`
Slamming the Maharashtra government’s unfair compensation to Marathwada flood victims, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday called it a “matter of concern”.
Sanjay Raut also announced that Shiv Sena (UBT) will hold a `Marathwada Morcha` led by party chief Uddhav Thackeray to protest the government`s inaction.
While speaking to the media on Friday, Sanjay Raut said that the government appeared more focused on welcoming the visiting British Prime Minister than on addressing the severe distress faced by flood-hit regions.
Raut emphasised, “The flood situation in Marathwada is still a matter of concern, but the government is not serious. The government was busy welcoming the British Prime Minister. It was expected that Modi would come and make some announcements for the flood victims in Marathwada, but to prevent this burden from falling on Modi, Devendra Fadnavis has announced a package that will blow away the dust.”
Sanjay Raut further demanded that the government should provide compensation of Rs 50,000 per hectare to affected farmers, emphasising that the damage to farmland is so severe that “the next two generations cannot use the land for farming.”
Announcing Marathwada Morcha, Raut asserted that “Shiv Sena (UBT) is organising a Marathwada Morcha, and Uddhav Thackeray himself will lead it.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut also urged PM Modi to extend financial aid to the region`s farmers from the PM Cares Fund.
