One of the two women from the Byculla building collapse, which happened on Wednesday, 28 May, 2025, has lost her life. After fighting for her life for two days in Nair hospital, Naziya Khan (35) lost her life on Friday, 30 May 2025.
In a very unfortunate, two women were seriously injured when a part of an old building collapsed in Mumbai`s Byculla area. The incident took place on the evening of May 28 when the traffic and movement of the people in that area were quite busy.
According to BMC, the incident happened at around 4:55 pm on Wednesday, May 28. This unfortunate incident happened when one of the houses, which was not in very good condition, collapsed.
The building which collapsed was said to be in poor condition, and after Monday`s heavy rain shower, the condition looks even worse. It is reported that there was a specific part of the building which was not in very good condition, and it suddenly collapsed on Wednesday evening. The building is located at Ashrafi Mazil, Badlu Ramgari Street, opposite Farzand Airport in Byculla West.
As soon as the information about this incident at Byculla was reported, several agencies and departments rushed to the spot. The BMC, Mumbai Fire Department, BMC`s Ward Staff, and Mhada worked swiftly to get the injured to the hospitals as soon as possible. However, all the authorities present at the scene also made sure that the debris was cleared quickly so that the people of the area could go back to their normal lives.
Furthermore, it has also been reported that some part of the 5th-floor gallery structure collapsed, in which both the women Naziya Khan (35) and Khushnuma were stranded.
However, just a few hours after the incident, both the woman Naziya Khan (35) and Khushnuma Khatoon (30) were immediately taken to civic-run Nair Hospital in ambulances which came to the scene immediately. After reaching the hospital, the staff said that the condition of both the women who were seriously injured was not excellent. However, Naziya Khan, after fighting for her life for two days, on Friday, May 30, took her last breaths, while Khushnuma`s condition is said to be stable.
The building is said to be identified under the Cesses category, which means that it was constructed before 1969 and is an old and rent-controlled building.
With all the chaos happening in Byculla for two days, the Mumbai Fire Department stated that a probe is underway and we are finding the reasons why this incident happened.
