BMC begins hearings on 492 objections to draft wards; 189 heard on day one

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday began hearing on 492 objections filed on draft wards and as many as 189 were heard on day one of the hearing, officials said.

According to an official statement, the first round of hearings on the draft ward structure for the upcoming BMC elections 2025 was held on Wednesday at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre. Out of a total of 492 objections and suggestions received by the state government, 189 cases were heard on the first day.

The hearing was conducted under the Iqbal Singh Chahal, the appointed officer, it said.

Several key officials were present, including Bhushan Gagrani (BMC Commissioner and Administrator), Dr Ashwini Joshi (Additional Municipal Commissioner – City), and Vijay Balamwar (Special Election Officer), it further stated.

Last month, a notification was issued on August 22, announcing the boundaries of the draft wards. Citizens were invited to submit objections and suggestions between August 22 and September 4, the last date of submission.

“492 submissions were received by the civic officials, reflecting public interest and participation. The process of hearings on these submissions started on Wednesday and will continue till September 12 at the same venue,” said the officials.
