The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday announced a 24-hour water cut in parts of south Mumbai after pipeline leak was reported near Mantralaya.
The Mumbai civic body said that a sudden leak occurred on Thursday in a 600 mm diameter water pipeline near Gate No. 1 of the Mantralaya in south Mumbai.
“The BMC has taken up urgent repair work on a war footing,” officials said.
The BMC said that due to the repairs, water supply will be completely shut down for 24 hours in the following areas-
– Cuffe Parade: From 11:30 am to 1:45 pm
– G.D. Somani Road: From 1:45 pm to 3:10 pm
– Colaba Koliwada: From 6:30 pm to 6:50 pm
– Geeta Nagar: From 12:15 am to 2:45 am (early morning hours)
The BMC has informed that water supply will gradually resume in stages after the repair work is completed.
The citizens in the affected areas are requested to use water sparingly, and store water in advance where possible. The civic body has appealed for cooperation during this emergency situation, an official statement said.
Earlier, the BMC had said that a major water pipeline leakage was reported near Mantralaya on Madam Cama Road, Churchgate, on Friday morning, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The water leakage incident was first reported to the civic authorities at around 11.30 am by A Ward Control, with an official update issued at 12.50 pm the Mumbai civic officials confirmed that a 600 mm water main had developed a leakage.
The officials said that the leakage has resulted in damage to a 40-metre stretch of the road.
Following the incident, the BMC officials rushed to the spot and began repair works.
They said that the water supply in the affected area has been shut down as a precautionary measure. The Water Works Department has deployed a team on site to carry out emergency repair work.
Assistant Engineer (Water Works) Ankita Dhopate informed that the restoration efforts are currently in progress.
Further updates on the completion of repair work and restoration of water supply are awaited from the civic body.
