Ayushmann Khurrana says Thamma is more massy than Lokah Chapter 1

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are gearing up for the release of their film Thamma, which will hit the big screens this Diwali. The horror comedy comes from the universe that created the blockbuster films Stree and Bhediya. Ahead of the film’s release, Ayushmann spoke about how Thamma differs from the recent Malayalam blockbuster Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra. Both films feature spooky elements of vampire drama.

Thamma vs Lokah

In a chat with Galatta Plus, Ayushmann was asked about how Thamma differs from the Malayalam hit film Lokah, produced by Dulquer Salmaan. Answering the question, Khurrana said, “We are high on comedy.”

He further noted, “I was shooting in Allahabad when the film was released. It wasn’t released there. Ours is a more massy film that penetrates down to the Hindi-speaking audience too. Lokah could cater more to a certain multiplex audience. We have different genres, different situations, and it’s a different story altogether. There’s hardly any similarity.”

When the interviewer pointed out that both films feature female vampires in the lead, the team denied any such connection. Rashmika and Ayushmann refused to confirm or deny whether the female lead in Thamma is a vampire.

About Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra

Written and directed by Dominic Arun, the film features cinematography by Nimish Ravi and editing by Chaman Chacko. Music is composed by Jakes Bejoy, with action sequences choreographed by international action director Yannick Ben. Additional screenplay and dramaturgy are by Santhy Balachandran, with art direction by Jithu Sebastian.

According to reports, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra will be available to stream on JioHotstar from October 20 as part of the Diwali OTT lineup. The makers have yet to officially announce the streaming date. Usually, South Indian films release on OTT after a four-week window, but the Lokah team decided to extend it since the film continues to shine at the box office. Despite clashing with Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam and Fahadh Faasil’s Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira, Lokah performed exceptionally well both in Kerala and outside the state.

About Lokah: Chapter 2

Following the success of Chapter 1, the makers announced the expansion of the Lokah universe. They recently released the first poster and a special glimpse of the sequel, Lokah: Chapter 2 – When Legends Chill: Michael and Charlie, bringing back Tovino Thomas as Michael and Dulquer Salmaan as Charlie. The teaser hints at a darker turn in the story, and Dominic Arun will continue as the director of this growing supernatural saga.
