`Arjun wrote to me asking why I don`t come home`: Boney Kapoor

Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor, who is known for iconic blockbusters and chatter around his personal life, recently opened up about the deeply personal choices that shaped his life off-screen. He shared how his decision to marry Sridevi affected his family, especially his kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor.

Boney reveals how he told his first wife about Sridevi

During a conversation with Chanda Kochhar on her YouTube channel, Boney reflected on the emotional complexities of his two marriages. Notably, he was first married to Mona Shourie Kapoor in 1983, and later married legendary star Sridevi in 1996.

He shared, “I told my first wife. I had confessed to her. Look at this ring I’m wearing and the one Sridevi was wearing. Both were bought by Mona….She brought the children up without creating any kind of hatred toward me or the other kids.”

Boney further described the emotional toll of balancing two worlds, especially after Sridevi lost both of her parents: “I have a letter from Arjun (Kapoor) where he asked me, ‘Why don’t you come home?’ I used to feel bad. What could I do? I was divided. On one side was my wife (Sridevi), and on the other side were my kids. I couldn’t leave her alone; her parents had passed, and she was alone. But here, at least my kids were with their mother, and they were living with their grandparents.”

Boney also shared that he loved his children and that he had to be strong to handle the situation. He expressed gratitude to Mona for her maturity, noting that she never turned the children against him or each other. He said, “I love my children. I loved them even more back then. And I had to go through things… I had to be very strong to handle some situations. Because I love all my children. And I respected my ex-wife because she never played this game of putting one against the other. Kids felt bad because they couldn`t see their mom suffering, which I understand. And I feel blessed now, all four of them are together.”

Kapoor also admitted that Sridevi was fond of Arjun, who was unaware of their relationship, when she stayed at his house before they got married. He revealed, “When Sridevi came to my house, when this bomb blast had happened, she used to get along very well with Arjun. Arjun was her favourite when she stayed as a guest. He didn`t know what was happening. I remember those days vividly, but somehow, things don`t go the way you planned.”

Following Sridevi`s demise, Arjun and Anshula reached out to their half-siblings, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. They were immense support to them, and now all four siblings have a strong bond which they all cherish.
