Amrita Rao captivated audiences with her girl-next-door charm in the early 2000s. However, her portrayal of Poonam in Vivah remains iconic. The actress recalls how she received proposals and blood-written love letters after the film. She even recalled golden advice from Shah Rukh Khan, which she received during the Main Hoon Na shoot, and which impacted her career decisions.
Amrita Rao on advice from SRK
Amrita Rao recently had a candid conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia on his podcast, where she opened up about her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan. The Main Hoon Na actress said, “He said something very nice: ‘200 filmein aayengi, par humein sirf do karni hai. Aur fir usmein se woh ek film hai that people are waiting for.’ (He told me I will be offered 200 films, but I must sign only two in the hope that one of them is the one people are waiting for.) That has been my criteria while signing films, and that’s why I have been so selective in this journey.”
She added, “He used to observe that I had newcomers with me and would take that nervous energy from us. Every time, the first take was the best take; there were no second takes because his temperament was like ‘second take dena hi nahi hai’ (don’t ask for a second take) — be so focused ki second take dena hi naa pade (ensure you don’t need to).”
Amrita on receiving proposals after Vivah
Amrita revealed, “After Vivah, I used to get NRI proposals with family photos — people standing next to their car and dog, saying ‘mujhse shaadi karlo’ (please marry me). And not just one or two… I got many! I used to laugh and wonder, ‘Kya log hain yeh!’ (What kind of people are they?).”
She added, “Some even wrote letters. Once, I received a letter written in blood, and that was very scary. There was this guy who would stand at the telephone booth outside my house, and my mom or dad would have to pick up the phone. It got a little much.”
Talking about Amrita Rao, she was recently seen in Jolly LLB 3 opposite Arshad Warsi. The film also featured Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla, and others in pivotal roles.
