Delegates from over 30 countries, including researchers, experts, and policymakers, will gather in Mumbai next year to discuss actionable strategies to combat climate change at the ‘Mumbai Climate Week’, which will be held from February 17 to 19, 2026, news agency PTI reported.
Announcing the event on Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the global conference will highlight India’s growing leadership in climate action and sustainability.
The event, conceptualised by Project Mumbai, will be organised in collaboration with the Maharashtra Environment and Climate Change Department and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), reported PTI.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the conference will host delegates primarily from the Global South, including countries across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Participants will deliberate on practical, inclusive, and finance-driven solutions to address climate challenges.
At a meeting held at Mantralaya, attended by Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, department secretary Jayshree Bhoj, and Project Mumbai CEO Shishir Joshi, the Chief Minister unveiled the official logo and introductory film of Mumbai Climate Week, PTI reported.
Fadnavis said the initiative reflects India’s commitment to building a sustainable and equitable climate future. “Inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mumbai and Maharashtra are ready to contribute toward creating a just, innovative, and well-funded climate future for the Global South,” he said.
The three-day conference will focus on food systems, energy transition, and urban resilience, viewed through the lenses of justice, innovation, and finance. Fadnavis stressed the need for collective efforts involving citizens, industries, and policymakers to mitigate the effects of climate change and set measurable goals for Maharashtra and Mumbai in the climate sector.
Project Mumbai CEO Shishir Joshi described the event as a milestone for the state and the country, emphasising its role in advancing inclusive, people-led solutions for climate resilience.
