Uttar Pradesh: Woman dead, six injured in massive fire at Moradabad restaurant
A woman died and six others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a five-storey restaurant on Rampur Road in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, news agency PTI reported, quoting police.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh, the blaze erupted at the restaurant on Sunday night under the Katghar Police Station limits. Firefighters and police teams promptly reached the spot and rescued seven people, including the restaurant owner, Pradeep Srivastava.
The injured were rushed to the district hospital, where Srivastava’s 56-year-old mother, Maya, was declared dead, PTI reported. The remaining six injured are undergoing treatment and are reported to be in stable condition, officials said.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have started after sparks from fireworks used at a nearby wedding ignited cooking gas cylinders in the restaurant’s kitchen, triggering explosions that spread flames from the basement up to the third floor.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after several hours of effort, PTI reported, quoting officials.
Senior officers, including DIG Muniraj Ji and SDM Sadar Ram Mohan Meena, later visited the site. The exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
