Fire breaks out at Bata showroom in Crawford Market; no injuries reported

A fire broke out late on Sunday night at the Bata Showroom located in Dwarkadas Building on Lokmanya Tilak Road at South Mumbai’s Crawford Market.

The incident was first reported at 10.26 pm by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Fire Brigade (MFB), which initially declared it a Level-I blaze at 10.29 pm.

According to updates from MFB, the fire was confined to materials stored inside the Bata Showroom on the ground floor of the ground-plus-four-storey building. Smoke was seen emanating from adjacent shops, prompting rapid deployment of emergency personnel.

By 10.44 pm, the fire brigade upgraded the blaze to Level-II, mobilising multiple units, including eight fire engines, six jet tenders, an aerial ladder platform, water tanker, breathing apparatus van, and a rescue van. Senior officials, including 1 assistant district fire officer, a senior station officer, and three station officers, along with ward staff, were on site to manage the situation. The police and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) staff were also deployed for the dousing operations.

No injuries have been reported in the incident. Firefighters worked promptly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring establishments.

MFB is conducting a detailed assessment to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire breaks out at high-rise in Mumbai`s Kandivali; eight rescued, three admitted to ICU

A fire broke out at a high-rise residential building in Kandivali (West) on Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), officials said.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the blaze erupted in a flat at Agarwal Residency on Shankar Lane. The fire was confined to the hall of room number 205 on the second floor of the 17-storey building and was brought under control within 20 minutes.

The incident was reported at 7:45 am, and the flames were doused by 8:05 am. Firefighters rescued eight residents — two men, three women, and three children — using the staircase.

Three of the rescued individuals — Chintan Abhay Kothari (45), Khyati Chintan Kothari (42), and Jyoti Abhay Kothari (66) — suffered from smoke inhalation and have been admitted to the ICU at Tunga Hospital, Malad. Their condition is reported to be stable, hospital authorities said.

The remaining five residents — Parth Kothari (39), Riddhi Parth Kothari (36), Ayara Parth Kothari (6), Pranj Parth Kothari (3), and Mahavir Chintan Kothari (7) — were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation before being discharged.

The fire damaged the electric wiring, installations, and wooden furniture in the hall. No fatalities were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
