Jitendra Kumar to wrap up Mirzapur: The Film as Bablu Pandit soon

Ever since Mirzapur: The Film was announced, the internet has been in overdrive. Fans of the cult franchise — the first Indian web series to get a big-screen spin-off — can’t stop speculating about how it will live up to the hype. Their excitement only grew when behind-the-scenes videos from the shoot went viral, revealing an unexpected surprise: everyone’s favourite, Jeetu Bhaiya aka Jitendra Kumar, on set!

Vikrant Massey

While the actor and makers remain tight-lipped about his addition, sources tell mid-day that Kumar has already completed more than half of his portions. “By Monday, he should wrap up the film. Mirzapur: The Film is being shot in Varanasi [Uttar Pradesh] and Mumbai,” informs a source. Kumar steps into the shoes of Bablu Pandit, originally played by Vikrant Massey, who brought the character to life in the show’s first season before Bablu was killed off. It will be interesting to see what director Gurmmeet Singh and writer Puneet Krishna do with his return in the movie.

Jitendra Kumar

“Vikrant lent innocence and a subtle strength to Bablu Pandit. That naïvety will remain intact with Jitendra’s portrayal as he brings an affability and sincerity to the screen. His chemistry with Ali is also something to watch out for. In Jitendra, the makers have not only found a [good] actor but, from the perspective of visibility, he is extremely popular in the heartland. It will be a collaboration worth the wait,” shares another insider.

Though Kumar has been told to lie low and maintain secrecy, an insider reveals that “Excel Entertainment has [a special] plan to announce Jitendra as part of the Mirzapur family. It will happen once the principal shoot is over early next year.” Divyenndu and Abhishek Banerjee are also returning to the film, which will hit theatres sometime next year.
