Mumbai and its suburbs on Wednesday are expected to experience partly cloudy skies, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 36 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. A similar forecast is in place for Thursday, with no significant changes expected in the temperature or cloud cover.
Amid the October heat, several areas in Mumbai witnessed rainfall on Tuesday, offering brief relief from the lingering post-Diwali pollution. According to IMD officials, the rain was primarily triggered by a trough in easterly winds across Maharashtra at lower levels, leading to moisture incursion. Combined with higher daytime temperatures, these factors created ideal conditions for thunderstorm development and rainfall, particularly over interior Maharashtra and the Konkan region.
As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the rainfall recorded between 6 PM and 7 PM on Tuesday showed notable variations across different parts of the city.
In the city region, Kala Killa Municipal School in Dharavi received the highest amount at 19 mm, followed by 16 mm in Pratiksha Nagar, Sion, and 10 mm at both the F/N Ward Office and Dadar Fire Station. In the eastern suburbs, S Ward Office, Building Proposal Office, and Collector Colony Municipal School received 15 mm, while Maravali Municipal School in Chembur reported 14 mm. Other areas like MPS Maharashtra School, MCMCR Powai, and Gavanpada Fire Station recorded rainfall between 10–12 mm. In the western suburbs, Goregaon saw 16 mm, and Aarey Municipal School received 10 mm.
Despite the showers, no incidents of tree branch falls or waterlogging complaints were reported, as confirmed through CCTV monitoring. Railway services remained normal during the period.
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts mostly dry weather for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. However, Raigad district could see light to moderate rain and thundershowers.
The IMD has also issued yellow alerts for several districts. Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri are expected to face thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated locations. Notably, Ratnagiri is under a yellow alert for the entire week.
In addition, Kolhapur, including its ghat regions, along with Satara, ghats of Satara, and Sangli, have also been placed under a yellow alert for the full week, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms and localised weather disturbances.
