Two persons were injured when a portion of a slab at a chawl collapsed in Maharashtra`s Thane city, civic officials said on Sunday, reported news agency PTI.
The incident was reported around 9 pm on Saturday in the 25 to 30 years old Dharma Niwas Chawl (row tenement) located at Vitawa in Kalwa area, Thane Municipal Corporation`s (TMC) disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
The slab collapse caused two people to fall from the first floor of the structure. They were immediately rushed to a civic hospital in Kalwa for treatment, he said.
The chawl has 20 flats, comprising 45 to 50 residents. The structure was not previously listed in the dangerous buildings, the official said, reported PTI.
Emergency teams rushed to the spot after the incident. Six flats were evacuated and sealed due to the dangerous condition of the remaining structure and its power supply was disconnected, he said, reported PTI.
The displaced residents were asked to temporarily stay elsewhere, the official said, adding the TMC`s construction department will take further action.
Blaze guts commercial shops in Mumbai; no injuries
In another case, a fire engulfed a few commercial shops in Mumbai`s western suburb of Malad on Saturday, officials said, reported PTI.
There has been no report of any injury to anyone due to the blaze, which erupted around 1 pm in the Pathanwadi area and was confined to four to five shops, they said, reported PTI.
Initially, the authorities had said that the fire had spread to 15 to 20 shops.
At least eight fire engines and other firefighting vehicles were sent to the spot. The fire was put out within four hours, an official said, reported PTI.
The fire affected electric wiring and installation, racks and cupboards, wooden and steel furniture, and various types of machinery, he said.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained, the official added.
Electric car, 3 motorcycles gutted in fire at commercial complex in Mumbai
Meanwhile, an electric car and three motorcycles were gutted in a fire that broke out in a two-storey commercial complex in Andheri east area of Mumbai on Friday, civic officials said, reported PTI.
Nobody was injured in the incident, they said.
The blaze erupted in a two-storey commercial structure located in KDN Compound in Ashok Nagar on Military Road around 8.10 am, an official said, reported PTI.
It took more than six hours of efforts for the fire brigade personnel to douse the fire as the task was completed around 2.25 pm.
“An electric car, three motorcycles, office material, furniture and other things kept in an area of about 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft on the ground floor and loft area of the two-storey structure, got destroyed in the fire,” he said, reported PTI.
Part of the structure collapsed due to the fire, he added.
The cause of the fire is being ascertained, according to the official.
