Indian food has become really popular around the world over the decades. Its beauty is in its diversity that means a wide variety of flavours coming from not only the north but also the east, west and south of India.
In the latest recognition for Indian food, TasteAtlas, popular for its rankings for food around the world, has released the list for the ’20 Best Wraps’ and Kolkata’s kathi roll features at number six.
The top five include gyros from Greece, Sangchu Ssam from South Korea, Tantuni from Mersin in Turkey, Enchiladas Suizas from Mexico City in Mexico, and Carne Asada Burrito from San Diego in the USA.
Interestingly, the chicken kathi roll variety also separately features in the list at number 14 , as the California Burrito from San Diego in the USA closes the top 20.
Earlier this October, the Indian filter coffee also got its much-deserved recognition on TasteAtlas on the occasion of International Coffee Day, celebrated on October 1. It came after Kerala’s Karimeen Pollichathu and the Chingri Malai Curry, featured in the 50 Best Seafood dishes in the world in September.
With such a global influence in food due to its flavours, Indian cuisine often finds a mention including the Anglo-Indian cuisine with dishes such as Mulligatawny and Chicken Tikka Masala from the country.
In August, India’s Upma also featured in TasteAtlas ’50 Best Porridges’ in the world at number 42, making it one among many dishes that have appeared frequently in the rankings.
Mumbai has also been among the top as not only did K Rustom’s Mango sandwich but also Apsara’s Guava ice cream featured on the list of ‘100 Most Iconic Ice Creams’ in the world, apart from the Gadbad at Pabba’s in Mangaluru and Death by Chocolate at Corner House in Bengaluru.
