Porsche crashes into divider while racing BMW on Western Express Highway

A late-night accident occurred on the Western Express Highway on Wednesday after a Porsche car allegedly collided with a divider, police said.

The incident took place near Gundavali Metro Station around 2:30 am on Thursday. According to officials, the Porsche was heading toward Bandra at high speed when its driver, identified as Neo Sauns (22), a resident of Mira Road, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the divider.

In the impact, a nearby BMW car also sustained damage. The Porsche driver was injured and has been taken for medical treatment, police confirmed.

Initial eyewitness accounts suggested that both luxury cars were speeding and appeared to be racing before the accident. However, Mumbai Police later clarified that no car racing activity had taken place prior to the crash.

Visuals from the spot show a blue Porsche severely damaged in the collision. The Jogeshwari Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.

The incident has drawn parallels with the May 2024 Pune Porsche accident that triggered nationwide outrage. In that case, a Porsche allegedly driven by a minor in an inebriated state fatally hit two IT professionals in Kalyani Nagar.

Porsche car crash case exposed systemic corruption: Pune police commissioner

Meanwhile, the Porsche car crash case exposed “systemic corruption,” but the Pune Police have successfully uncovered the nexus behind the replacement of the accused juvenile`s blood samples with those of his mother, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The case made national headlines after the high-end car allegedly driven by the 17-year-old boy in an inebriated state mowed down motorcycle-borne IT professionals Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa in the Kalyani Nagar area on May 19 last year, reported PTI.

“Last year`s Porsche car crash case sparked widespread discussions about Pune`s deteriorating social culture, alleged police corruption, and several other issues. Amid all the criticism, one positive aspect stood out: the case exposed systemic corruption. It also demonstrated how the police, working within the same system, managed to uncover the entire nexus behind the replacement of the juvenile`s blood samples with those of his mother,” Kumar said while addressing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, an initiative aimed at raising awareness against drug addiction, organised at Modern College, reported PTI.

He added that the juvenile has been released since he was a minor.
