Trolls have once again discovered Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone. This time, it appears to be “her choice”. Actually, not entirely.
Deepika Padukone, who has been the subject of numerous controversies this year, recently featured in a commercial for Experience Abu Dhabi, which is run by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, as a regional brand ambassador alongside her husband and frequent co-star Ranveer Singh.
Deepika Padukone gets trolled for wearing hijab
In the video, the couple, dressed casually in western attire, is shown laughing over a sculpture at the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum before admiring the grandeur of the city`s famed Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. During their visit to the mosque, Deepika Padukone is dressed in a maroon costume that covers her entire body except her face and hands, while Ranveer Singh wears a black suit.
Deepika Padukone quickly became a trending topic on social media, with some X accounts condemning the actor for wearing a garment incorrectly described as a `hijab` when it was actually an abaya.
Referring back to her 2015 Vogue My Choice short film, in which she advocated for women`s empowerment in terms of how they dress, live, and socialize, a user commented on whatever happened to one`s choice.

Many people pointed out that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have visited a number of temples on multiple occasions, including their wedding anniversary and the arrival of their daughter Dua last year.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh celebrated their first wedding anniversary in 2019 by visiting the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, and the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, to respect their roots.
“As we celebrate our first wedding anniversary,we seek the blessings of Lord Venkateswara. Thank you all for your love, prayers and good wishes! @ranveersingh,” she wrote.
Deepika Padukone wore a traditional crimson Kanjeevaram saree with gold zari work at the Lord Venkateswara Temple, while Ranveer Singh wore a golden kurta-churidar with an exquisitely embroidered jacket.
Deepika Padukone dressed in a maroon salwar-kameez and a sheer dupatta for her visit to the Golden Temple. Ranveer Singh, on the other hand, dressed in a floral kurta-pyjama pair and wore a mauve-colored patka, a Sikh headgear worn in place of the full Sikh turban for religious trips and festivities.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh prayed in Mumbai`s Siddhivinayak Temple on Ganesh Chaturthi only days before welcoming their daughter Dua last September.
Not only in real life, but also on television, the actress has received criticism for her clothing. Remember the Besharam Rang bikini scandal that erupted before the release of Pathaan two years ago?
Deepika Padukone has yet to offer a remark regarding the ongoing trolling.
