Soha Ali Khan always treats us to adorable glimpses of her family moments. She married Kunal Kemmu in 2015 and, back then, faced backlash for her interfaith marriage. In a recent interview, Soha was asked about the noise around her decision to marry Kunal, and she recalled how people used phrases like “Ghar Wapsi” and “Love Jihad.” She shared that similar noise was made when Saif and Kareena got married.
Soha Ali Khan on Saif-Kareena’s interfaith marriage
In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, the Rang De Basanti actress recalled, “I don’t think it got to me because I feel like as long as the people I love, care about, and respect are on the same page as me, it’s okay. There are going to be lots of haters, lots of voices, and that’s also okay. I am fine with everyone having an opinion, and that’s all fine. So I think things like interfaith marriage, even when Kunal and I got married, even when Kareena and bhai got married, there were lots of strange things: Love Jihad, Ghar Wapsi, all kinds of weird headlines. You know, ‘you took one of ours, now we will take one of yours.’”
Saif Ali Khan had once revealed to Rediff that Kareena’s father, Randhir Kapoor, had received anonymous letters filled with threats. He recalled that his parents, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore, had also faced similar resistance.
Soha Ali Khan on Saif and Amrita Singh’s divorce
Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh got married in 1991, but in 2004, the couple parted ways. They are parents to Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Their separation was tough for Soha Ali Khan, who recalls sharing a warm bond with Amrita. She revealed how she lived in Amrita’s house and even accompanied her during photoshoots.
Soha shared, “These are things that you don’t have any control over. When a marriage ends, those families also go through some kind of change and adjustment, and you may find your own independent equation after some time, but it’s complicated. For me, Amrita was someone I have lived with in her house. She has looked after me. She has taken me for photoshoots and done so much. We have played scrabble together.”
Saif later married Kareena in 2012, and they have two sons, Jeh and Taimur. The couple fell in love on the sets of Tashan.
