Three persons allegedly beat a 55-year-old man to death after he objected to them throwing a poisonous substance into a river in Maharashtra`s Palghar district, police said on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.
The incident took place on Monday, and the police nabbed the accused within 12 hours, they said.
The victim, Navasu Ladkya Phuphane, resident of Saturli village in Mokhada taluka, objected to the three men throwing a poisonous substance into the Vaitarna river to kill fish, reported PTI.
The accused, identified as Jitendra alias Jitu Jayram Patil (31), Ritesh alias Gudda Tukaram Patil (23), and Pramod alias Panya Chintaman Warghade (25), all residents of Saturli, later confronted the victim, Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh said, reported PTI.
“The three men abused and attacked the victim and his son with wooden sticks. They then allegedly tied the victim with a rope, dragged him to the village, and continued to assault him until he succumbed to his injuries,” the official said.
Based on a complaint by the victim`s son, a case of murder and related offences was immediately registered at Mokhada Police Station. Multiple police teams were formed to apprehend the accused, reported PTI.
The police tracked down and arrested the accused within 12 hours of the incident, the official said.
Man stabbed multiple times over dispute in Thane
In another case, a 27-year-old man was severely injured after a person stabbed him multiple times following a heated argument in Maharashtra`s Thane district, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
The incident occurred around 10.30 pm on October 5 near a gym at Anjur Phata in Bhiwandi area.
The accused believed that the victim`s cousin had kidnapped his sister, an official from Narpoli police station said, reported PTI.
He got into an argument with the victim while they were chatting. The accused, in a fit of anger, pulled out a knife and allegedly stabbed the victim several times, leaving him badly injured, the official said, reported PTI.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment, he said.
Based on a complaint by his family, the Narpoli police registered a case against the accused on various charges, including attempt to murder, and efforts were on to trace him, the official said.
