Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday condemned the attempt to throw an object at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, calling it an attack on the Constitution of India, reported news agency ANI.
Raut claimed the incident wasn`t just about the CJI but a broader reflection of the current political climate, where those in power disregard the Constitution and their followers resort to such acts.
“The shoe has not been thrown or attempted to be thrown at CJI BR Gavai, but rather it was an attempt to throw the shoe at the Constitution of India. The people in power are not ready to follow the Constitution of India and their followers are doing these kinds of things,” Raut told ANI.
The incident has sparked a heated debate about the growing intolerance and disrespect towards institutions in India. Many have expressed concern about the safety and security of judges and the potential implications for the country`s democracy.
Several politicians, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BSP chief Mayawati, and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, condemned the incident, calling it an attack on democracy and the judiciary.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other government officials also condemned the incident, emphasising the importance of respecting the judiciary.

He was immediately apprehended by the security personnel and escorted out.
Raut also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he tried to buy the votes of 75 lakh Bihar women by transferring Rs 10,000 in their bank accounts.
Raut said that PM Modi did the same in the name of `Ladki Bahin Yojana` during the Maharashtra assembly elections, asserting that a Prime Minister belongs to the whole country rather than a particular party, reported ANI.
“PM Modi tried to buy the votes of 75 lakh women in Bihar before the assembly elections by transferring Rs 10,000 into their bank accounts. They did the same in Maharashtra through the Ladki Bahin Yojana…He is the Prime Minister of the nation, not of a particular party,” Raut told ANI.
He also expressed confidence in Mahagathbandhan`s victory in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, stressing that Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav have exposed the Election Commission of India and the BJP`s approach to conducting fair elections.
“The Election Commission of India announced the schedule of the Bihar elections yesterday. The elections will be very interesting. By conducting the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav have exposed the Election Commission of India and the BJP for their approach to conducting fair elections,” he said, reported ANI.
