Farah Khan claims Akshay Kumar-starrer Tees Maar Khan was not a flop

Filmmaker Farah Khan has enjoyed a strong success rate as a director. One of her films, the comedy Tees Maar Khan starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, was released in 2010. While the film did not receive critical or commercial appreciation at the time, it has since found a second life as a pop culture phenomenon. Its dialogues, eccentric characters, and scenes became popular online, with netizens enjoying the film’s quirky charm. Now, Farah Khan has clarified that the film was never actually a flop at the box office.

Farah Khan says Tees Maar Khan was not a flop

Farah reacted to a social media post where a creator described Tees Maar Khan as “a flop movie that I secretly love.” Responding to the post, Farah wrote, “Just for your knowledge, it made Rs 60 crore then! Not a flop… just ripped apart.”

A few months ago, in her vlog, Farah revealed that some people in the industry publicly celebrated her setback after Tees Maar Khan failed to receive a positive reception. Speaking to producer Jackky Bhagnani and her cook Dilip, she said, “In our industry, more than being happy for your success, people are happier for others’ failure. I remember when Tees Maar Khan was released, there was literally a celebration in the film industry. People I had worked with were saying things like, ‘Ab aayi na line pe.’”

Farah also shared that Tees Maar Khan has found a new audience over the years. “Among Generation Z, Tees Maar Khan is a legend. My other films don’t appeal to them. They believe Tees Maar Khan to be the one,” she remarked.

All about Tees Maar Khan

Tees Maar Khan was a heist comedy that released in 2010 amid massive hype, partly due to chartbuster songs like Sheila Ki Jawani. Despite high expectations, the film disappointed fans and critics alike. However, over time, it has gained a cult following, especially among Gen Z audiences who have turned it into a viral favorite on social media.

The story follows Tabrez Mirza Khan, also known as Tees Maar Khan, an international conman. He and his gang plot to rob a train carrying priceless antiques by convincing an entire village to help them, under the guise of shooting a movie.
