2nd October witnessed a clash of titans at the box office as two much-awaited films, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Kantara Chapter 1, released. Being a national holiday, both the films saw great footfalls; however, it is Rishab Shetty’s film that is leading the race. The first day collection of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s film is out, and it is already facing the onslaught of Kantara.
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari box office collection
According to the official figures, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari raked in 10.11 crores on day 1. Despite clashing with Kantara, it witnessed a double-digit opening. Thanks to the improved footfalls during the evening and night shows, due to the Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra holiday.
With this collection, Janhvi Kapoor has a huge reason to celebrate as the film markes her biggest opener of all time at the Indian box office. Her top openers include Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (10.11 crores) Dhadak (8.71 crores) and Param Sundari (7.37 crores).
However, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, the Kannada prequel that has stormed the box office with an impressive pan-India opening of over Rs 60 crore net. It minted Rs 19.5 crores in Hindi language while 40.5 crores in other langauges.
Before release, the films were in news over unfair division of screens. In an exclusive chat with mid-day, Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed that there isn’t a neat 50-50 division across Mumbai screens. “In most multiplexes here, Kantara is getting more screens. The buzz is based on the euphoria of the last part [Kantara, 2022]. Sunny Sanskari… is a happy family film with a wedding backdrop and will pull crowds in the North sector.”
