In a late-night operation, Mumbai Police apprehended two foreign nationals for attempting to sell cocaine in Goregaon East.
Authorities seized 6 grams of the drugs worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
According to a press note from Vanrai Police Station, the incident occurred around 3.15 am on Friday near the Veterinary Hospital gate on Western Express Highway. Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Tupare and his patrol team noticed two men behaving suspiciously. When questioned about their identities and addresses, the individuals gave evasive responses, prompting the police to conduct a search.
The police recovered cocaine from their possession during the search.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the duo intended to distribute the drug locally. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and both the accused have been remanded in custody. Further investigation is underway to probe possible links to larger drug trafficking networks operating in Mumbai`s suburbs.
The accused have been identified as 31-year-old Sai B Rahul alias Ukenna Godvin, a Nigerian national, and Ndusi Uma Aja, a 26-year-old citizen of Ivory Coast. The duo stays in Mira Road.
The Mumbai Police reiterated their commitment to curbing drug peddling in the city and urged residents to report any suspicious activity. The arrest comes amid a series of recent crackdowns on narcotics.
