Following a series of mid-day reports highlighting how speeding vehicles on the main Aarey Milk Colony road were endangering both pedestrians and wildlife, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) began installing speed breakers along the stretch. However, less than two months later, the white markings on the traffic calming devices are disappearing.
This newspaper has been consistently highlighting the need for speed breakers on the main Aarey Milk Colony road, as accidents take place due to speeding. Taking note of this, as reported in an August 8 article headlined ‘Speeding curbed at last on Aarey Milk Colony’s main stretch’, the civic body installed speed breakers at Unit 5, Picnic Point Junction, Kombat Pada and the main entrance of the colony, as the road falls under its jurisdiction.
Motorist Akshay Ranek said, “We were happy that the BMC constructed much-needed speed breakers on the main road where motorists and two-wheeler riders tend to speed. However, within less than two months, the markings on the speed breakers are fading away. Because of this, one cannot see the devices, which is even more dangerous, as accidents can happen.”
Every day, over 25,000 vehicles use the Aarey main road, which connects the Western Express Highway in Goregaon to Powai and Marol. Locals have urged the police and forest department to increase patrolling and take strict action against speeding motorists.
