Mumbai: Kandivli man held for betting on India-Pakistan Asia Cup match

The Kandivli police and Zone XI DCP Sandeep Jadhav’s squad arrested one bookie for allegedly betting on Sunday night’s India-Pakistan Asia Cup match through illegal betting platforms. Police have identified the accused as Kailash Mangilal Salecha, a resident of Shankar Lane, Kandivli West.

According to police sources, around 8.40 pm on Sunday, the police, acting on a tip-off, raided a flat in the Aman Co-operative Housing Society in the Shankar Lane area. During the raid, they caught Salecha red-handed operating online betting activities through his mobile phone.

An officer said that following his arrest, his mobile phone was seized, and after checking it, it was found out that Salecha was allegedly facilitating bets on WhatsApp chats through illegal betting websites. Police also found other people logged onto the betting sites along with Salecha, the officer added.

An FIR was registered in the early hours of Monday under the Section 318(4) of the BNS and Sections 4(a), 5, and 12(a) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prohibition Act against Salecha, said police.

“Salecha was arrested and was produced before the Borivli Metropolitan Magistrate court, which remanded him to one day police custody,” said Senior Inspector Karan Sonkawade, Kandivli police station.
