Full emergency declared at Mumbai airport after plane lands without wheel

A full emergency was declared at Mumbai airport on Thursday afternoon after a SpiceJet flight from Kandla in Gujarat to city reported a missing front wheel while landing, sources said.

They said that the aircraft, flight SG 2906, a SpiceJet Q400, was en route to Mumbai with an estimated time of arrival at 15:45.

According to airport sources and AOCC (Airport Operations Control Centre), the front landing gear wheel was reported missing mid-air, prompting emergency protocols to be activated. Before landing, the aircraft dumped fuel.

Despite the serious situation, the aircraft managed to land safely, taxi to the terminal on its own, and all passengers disembarked normally. No injuries were reported.

In an official statement, a SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed, “On 12th September, an outer wheel of a Q400 aircraft operating from Kandla to Mumbai was found on the runway after take-off. The aircraft continued to Mumbai and landed safely. All passengers disembarked normally.”
