SARRP India, in association with the Maharashtra Forest Department, successfully conducted a two-day Wildlife Awareness Campaign during the Velankanni Church Feast at Uttan, near Mumbai.
The campaign aimed to educate local citizens about the importance of wildlife conservation and to raise awareness that keeping Indian wildlife as pets is illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The initiative received strong support from the church community, with the priest himself incorporating this crucial message into his preaching.
Thanks to this collective effort, the people of Uttan responded positively, with several residents voluntarily surrendering pet wildlife over the two days.
This successful campaign underscores the power of awareness and community participation in protecting India’s wildlife.
