Over Rs 8 crore worth of hydroponic marijuana seized at Mumbai airport, two held

Mumbai Customs officials on Monday said that they have seized over Rs 8 crore worth of hydroponic marijuana from two passengers who had arrived from Bangkok in Thailand at the city airport.

The officials said that the seizure of the consignment weighing 8.562 kg in total of hydroponic marijuana was made at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai have seized in a major drug bust.

An official statement said that acting on intelligence and passenger profiling, officers from the Mumbai Customs Zone-III (Airport Commissionerate) intercepted two passengers arriving from Bangkok on flight 6E1052 on August 16 2025.

Upon checking their baggage, officials discovered that the narcotic substance was hidden inside a checked-in trolley bag.

“The illicit consignment, suspected to be hydroponic weed (a high-grade form of marijuana), is estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 8.56 crore,” officials said.

The passengers have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Further investigation is ongoing, officials said.
