Thane: Car catches fire near Kasarvadavali signal; no injuries reported

In a very tragic incident in Thane, a BMW car caught fire near Kasarvadavali signal in front of the Mahindra showroom causing panic among the people.

As per the Disaster Management Cell, the incident which took place on the busy Ghodbunder Road in Thane West on Saturday, August 16 afternoon, was reported at 12:06 pm. Fortunately, it did not result in any injuries, as all three people sitting inside the car were able to get out safely. 

According to the Disaster Management Cell, the BMW car was travelling from Lodha Splendora, Ovala, towards Manpada when the fire suddenly erupted. On noticing smoke and fire, the driver and passengers immediately evacuated the vehicle, avoiding any casualties. After safely stopping the car on the side of the road, the three men got out in time before things could take a turn for the worse, and the authorities arrived to the rescue.

The fire was reported by a man, who, without wasting any time, alerted the authorities. Responding swiftly, a team from the Balkum Fire Department, led by Station Officer Vetal, rushed to the spot with one fire engine and a rescue vehicle. 

A few minutes later, personnel from the city transport department and the disaster management cell also joined the operation with an additional pickup vehicle.

The team successfully managed to bring the fire on the BMW car under control by 12:45 pm, nearly 40 minutes after the incident was first reported. The coordinated efforts of the fire brigade and disaster management cell’s team ensured that the fire did not spread further or cause collateral damage in the busy traffic corridor near Thane.

The incident caused significant disruption to traffic flow in the Thane West area. The stretch from Ghodbunder towards Thane was closed for almost an hour, leading to a massive traffic jam on Ghodbunder Road. 

Soon after the rescue work was concluded, the officials highlighted that the situation is under control and there is no further issue related to the fire incident. Even as everybody got out safely, the cause of the incident is yet to be identified by the authorities.
