War 2 box office: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR stays strong on day 2

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR-starrer War 2 was among the most anticipated films of the year. The film is part of the YRF Spy Universe and marked the Bollywood debut of Telugu superstar Jr NTR. Despite poor reviews, the film managed to rake in over Rs 50 crore on its opening day, even while clashing at the box office with Rajinikanth`s Coolie. On Day 2, the film saw a 10% growth owing to the Independence Day national holiday.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, War 2 collected approximately Rs 56.5 crore in India across all languages. This marks nearly a 10% growth from its Day 1 collections. With this, the film’s total has crossed Rs 100 crore.

On Day 2, the Ayan Mukerji directorial recorded an overall occupancy rate of 51.52% and collected around Rs 40 crore from the Hindi version alone. The Telugu version saw a dip on day 2 as compared to opening day. 

Among cities, Chennai led with a staggering 94.75% occupancy, followed by Hyderabad at 80% and Lucknow at 73.75%. War 2 competed against Rajinikanth`s Coolie, which grossed roughly Rs 65 crore on its opening day.

The first War, directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Tiger Shroff, grossed Rs 53 crore on its opening day, with Rs 51 crore coming from the Hindi version alone. The last Spy Universe film, Tiger 3 starring Salman Khan, launched on Diwali (a Sunday) and grossed Rs 44.5 crore. Pathaan, one of Shah Rukh Khan`s biggest hits of 2023, opened at Rs 57 crore, with Rs 55 crore from the Hindi version.

War 2 is part of the YRF Spy Universe and is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. It features Roshan reprising his role as Kabir, a RAW agent. In the film, rogue agent Kabir battles elite operative Vikram, played by Jr NTR, in a high-octane global chase. Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor round off the cast.

The first War, also starring Vaani Kapoor alongside Roshan and Shroff, was a massive success, grossing over Rs 471 crore worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing film in India in 2019.
