B Praak: My voice naturally connects with the deep emotions of patriotic songs

For singer–composer B Praak, Independence Day isn’t just a date on the calendar — it’s an emotion. Known for stirring tracks like Teri Mitti, Maaye, and Mann Bharya, his voice has become synonymous with songs that make hearts swell with pride. As India celebrates its 79th Independence Day, B Praak opens up about the meaning of the day, the role of music in preserving patriotism, and the deep creative process behind his most moving work.

Music keeps patriotism alive

For B Praak, the day is also a reminder of his responsibility towards the nation as an artist. “It`s a day that makes me feel even more accountable as an artist since music can uplift people`s spirits and create unity. Over the years, I’ve had the honour to sing several patriotic songs, which makes this day even closer to my heart.”

The singer says that music is one of the most powerful ways to connect emotionally. The Teri Mitti singer feels that patriotic songs can make you feel the struggles experienced to get India its freedom and have a sense of pride. “Songs may inspire feelings of pride, suffering, and love for the nation even if they haven`t experienced the hardships of independence,” he says

Songs that stir the soul

While his own Teri Mitti remains close to his heart, there’s another track that moves him deeply. “Ae Watan from Raazi is simple yet powerful-  it feels authentic,” he says. “Songs that speak about the land, the sacrifices, and the love for the motherland always leave a lasting impact on me.”

Crafting a patriotic anthem

For B Praak, the creative process for patriotic music is completely different from that of romantic or dance tracks. “In patriotic songs, the focus isn’t on commercial appeal, it’s on honesty and emotion. Every lyric must be felt, not just sung,” he explains. “When I sang Teri Mitti, every word felt like a prayer. In patriotic music, emotion is the hero, not the singer.”

The power of a live performance

Performing such songs live, he says, is always a powerful experience. “I’ve seen thousands of people with their phone lights on, singing along, sometimes in tears. Over the years, I’ve realised that my voice naturally connects with the deep emotions of patriotic songs- perhaps that’s why I’ve had the honour to sing so many of them. Soldiers, army families, and even young children have told me how these songs inspire them. That kind of connection is the biggest reward for any artist.”

One song that captures India’s spirit

If he had to choose one song from his career that best represents the spirit of India, it would be Maaye from Sky Force. “It beautifully reflects the courage and sacrifices of our soldiers. The lyrics carry pride, love, and respect for the nation, and the music has a purity that connects instantly. It’s a fresh yet timeless expression of our unity and resilience.”

As the nation celebrates Independence Day, B Praak’s words are a reminder that music isn’t just entertainment, it’s a living, breathing tribute to the spirit of India.
