In a first-of-its-kind initiative, 86 Ganesh mandals in Girgaon have come together under the banner of “Girgaon Ganeshotsav” to host this year’s festivities with a unique cultural theme— ‘Ashtavinayak Wari’. The event, set to blend tradition with technology, aims to showcase Maharashtra’s spiritual heritage on an unprecedented scale.
The Girgaon Ganeshotsav’s Trustees and Committee, led by President Ganesh Lingayat, have announced that the celebrations will be rooted in Sanatan Dharma, traditional rituals, and cultural values.
Bringing Ashtavinayak to Girgaon
Eight mandals will recreate the exact replicas of Maharashtra’s revered Asthavinayak temples – designed under the supervision of renowned art director Sumeet Patil, who personally surveyed each shrine to ensure authenticity.
President Lingayat and committee member Sharad Kamath visited the original temples, meeting trustees to present the concept. The temple authorities expressed full support and will attend the festivities, the Girgaon Ganeshotsav said in a statement.
The initiative is expected to attract devotees from across communities, including Gujaratis, Marwadis, and Biharis, offering them a spiritual experience without leaving Mumbai, the statement added.
Safety measures to man high devotee footfall
President Lingayat revealed that the Asthavinayak Wari theme has already garnered widespread attention. Organisers expect over two crore visitors, with extensive security arrangements in place to ensure smooth proceedings.
“The ‘Asthavinayak Wari’ concept has gone viral even before the festival has begun. We expect over 2 crore devotees to visit. We have made special security arrangements to ensure a smooth, safe, and spiritually enriching experience for everyone,” said Lingayat.
Women empowerment and crowd management
In association with the Sushirmala Foundation, the festival will launch a women’s empowerment and employment programme. Over 1,000 women have already registered, with many to be trained in crowd management during the 10-day event.
First-ever puja seva system in Girgaon
For the first time, devotees will be able to book traditional puja sevas in advance. Appointed priests will conduct rituals, with complete puja materials arranged at the pandals. Special prasad will be distributed after each puja.
Technology meets tradition
Girgaon Ganeshotsav has partnered with 3ioNetra, a technology solutions provider for temples and trusts. Their e-commerce platform will list all Ashtavinayak Wari sevas, enabling global participation. Services include e-darshan and prasad delivery for devotees unable to attend in person.
