Following mid-day’s report on the poor condition of Kopar railway station, the Central Railway has taken its first concrete steps toward improvement. Within days of the report, an Automatic Vending Machine (AVM) was installed and water taps on two platforms were restored. While commuters have welcomed the move, many are urging authorities not to stop here, highlighting long-standing issues around safety, sanitation, and basic amenities that remain unresolved.
At the Diva-end of Kopar station, where a ticket window has remained shut for years, Central Railway has now installed an Automatic Vending Machine (AVM) near the foot overbridge. The AVM, enabled with digital payments and digital ticketing options, allows commuters to purchase tickets with ease. By Saturday afternoon, over 100 people had already used the machine, reflecting its immediate utility.

When mid-day visited on Sunday morning, the AVM was temporarily non-functional due to a minor glitch. A technician on site assured that it would be up and running within 30 minutes. In another development, drinking water taps on platforms 1 and 2 are now functional, with supply restored from the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). However, pipe replacement work for platforms 3 and 4 is still underway.
‘Don’t stop here’
Sayali Shinde, a regular commuter who had earlier raised complaints, welcomed the improvements but stressed the need for sustained action.
“We had complained about the lack of ticket counters, water, lights. Now, the AVM is there and water’s back, which is great. But the Panvel and Vasai-bound platforms are still neglected. This can’t be the end.”
Mahesh Panchal, echoed similar concerns
“It’s a good beginning, but where are the escalators? There’s still no toilet facility. The GRP and RPF cabins at the Kalyan-end are always locked. What about our safety and hygiene?”
Sagar Bapat, pointed to years of neglect.
“For two decades, the Diva-Vasai platforms have seen no serious development. No proper sheds, no lights. People still cross the tracks despite barricades, this is a major safety risk.”
Parag Londhe, another commuter added
“Thakurli station was completely overhauled, why not Kopar? It’s an important link between the Central and Western lines. Authorities should also consider running EMU services on the Diva-Vasai route.”
