Fire breaks out at South Mumbai showroom, no injuries reported

A level-II fire broke out early on Monday morning at a garments showroom located on the ground floor of a six-storey residential building in the Pedder Road area of South Mumbai. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The blaze, which erupted at approximately 7:40 am, originated in Shop Nos. 2 and 3 of the Libbas showroom, situated in the Shukhshanti Building near Jaslok Hospital and Nana Chowk. According to civic officials, the fire was confined to the electric wiring, installations, and stock of garments within the showroom premises. Thick smoke had logged the entire structure, prompting a full-scale emergency response.

Eight fire engines and multiple firefighting vehicles were immediately mobilised by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), along with personnel from the police, BEST, civic authorities, and emergency services including the 108 Ambulance.

The fire, declared a Level-II incident by the MFB, was reported to be “covered from all sides” by 8:10 am. Senior officers including a Deputy Fire Officer (DFO), Assistant Deputy Fire Officer (ADFO), and nine Station Officers (SO) were present on site, along with various specialised fire-fighting and rescue units such as Turn Table Ladder (TTL), Jumbo Tanker (JT), and Breathing Apparatus team (BA).

In a coordinated rescue effort, four men from the first floor and four women from the fourth floor were safely evacuated. Rescue teams also brought out three dogs and two cats from the building.

As of now, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further investigations are underway.

Mumbai: Fire breaks out at Andheri industrial estate, no injuries reported

A fire broke out at an industrial estate in the Marol area of suburban Andheri East on last Friday night, the Mumbai Fire Brigade said.

There were no reports of injuries, the officials said.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the Level-II fire broke out at Jaferbhoy industrial estate, Makvana Road around 10 pm.

The fire was confined to Shop No. 205 on the second floor of a ground-plus-three-storey building. The Mumbai Fire Brigade initially declared it a Level-I fire at 10:06 PM, but upgraded it to a Level-II fire at 10:46 PM as the flames intensified.

At least eight fire engines and other fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot. 

According to an update received from the Mumbai Fire Brigade at 1:45 AM, the fire was fully extinguished by 1:40 AM. No injuries were reported throughout the incident.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
