Juhu Tara Road streetlight with exposed wires poses serious risk to pedestrians

A streetlight with exposed electrical cables on Juhu Tara Road appears to be on the verge of collapse, posing a serious risk to passers-by. On Monday afternoon, when mid-day visited the spot, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials could be seen engaged in drainage work on the footpath along the eastbound stretch of the street, opposite the All India Balkan-Ji-Bari sports complex.

Once this is completed, the footpath will be restored. The ongoing work has left pedestrians with no choice but to walk on the road, putting their lives in danger. This risk is especially heightened during peak morning and evening hours, when heavy traffic makes navigating the streets even more difficult and unsafe.

Speaking about the streetlight, located near a signal along the same stretch, Hitu Pachkale, a motorist, said, “Recently, while travelling along Juhu Tara Road, I noticed that the pole had tilted, posing a danger if it falls. It’s hard to understand. Are the authorities waiting for someone to get injured? The officials and BMC department concerned should act immediately, either by removing the lamppost or repairing it to prevent potential accidents.”

Juhu Tara Road is one of the busiest stretches in the area, used every day by thousands of motorists, two-wheeler riders, and pedestrians, making smooth and safe movement essential.

Another motorist, Sumit Ghari, said, “The BMC should expedite the drainage work along the eastbound stretch of Juhu Tara Road opposite the Balkan-Ji-Bari, as pedestrians currently have no space to walk and are forced onto the road. At the same time, the BMC must remove the tilted streetlight pole at the earliest, as it could collapse and injure someone.”
