Maharashtra weather: At 16.6° Celsius Mumbai experiences cold, Jeur at 9.0° C

Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra on Monday experienced a chilly morning, experiencing one of the coldest days of 2025. With a notable drop in minimum temperatures on Monday, December 1, several districts of Maharashtra reported single-digit figures and cold wave–like conditions. 

As per the information received by IMD, Mumbai’s Colaba weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 22.0 degrees Celsius with 65 per cent humidity and 0.0 mm rainfall, while the minimum temperature at the Santacruz station was recorded at 16.6 degrees Celsius, indicating much cooler conditions. 

As per data shared by IMD, temperatures remained significantly below normal across the state. 

Jeur, as per the weather agency, was the coldest district across the state, which directly recorded the minimum temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, followed by Ahilyanagar with 9.4 degrees Celsius. 

Apart from that, Beed reported a minimum of 10.3 degrees Celsius, experiencing a chill breeze. 

Pune’s temperature dipped to 10.0 degrees Celsius, while Baramati recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7 degrees Celsius. 

Furthermore, Satara was among the coldest, registering 11.9 degrees Celsius with humidity at 81 per cent. 

Malegaon was another of the districts in Maharashtra which stood at a single-digit temperature, experiencing chilly evenings and cold mornings with a minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius.

Apart from the drop in temperature, Mumbai, on the other hand, has slowly started to experience better air quality. As per the Sameer app, the city`s Air Quality Index (AQI) on Monday stood at 110 till 8:05 am.

Along with Mumbai, the local AQI readings (MPCB) were 

  • Kurla – 101 (moderate)
  • Powai – 71 (good)
  • Vile Parle West – 110 (moderate)
  • Borivali East – 94 (good)
  • Worli – 92 (good)
  • Sion – 52 (good)
  • Colaba – 58 (good)
  • Mazagaon – 95 (good)
  • Borivali West – 108 (moderate)

On the other hand, Delhi-NCR, which has been experiencing extremely worse air quality, has now started to show consistent improvement. For January–November 2025, the region recorded its lowest average AQI in the last eight years (excluding 2020, the COVID lockdown year) at 187, down from 201 in 2024 and 213 in 2018.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered `good`, 100 to 200 `moderate`, 200 to 300 `poor`, 300 to 400 `very poor` and 400 to 500 or above `severe`.
