Mumbai is gearing up for a major network of underground tunnels to ensure that in the next seven years the average speed of Mumbai reaches 80 kmph, which currently averages around 15 to 20 kmph during peak hours.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “We are creating Pathal Lok (beneath the ground tunnel network) to address Mumbai`s traffic issue.” The CM replied with this while addressing a gathering of youth at an event held at the Dome in Worli.
Stating that nearly 60 per cent of Mumbai’s traffic moves on the Western Express Highway, Fadnavis claimed that unless this stretch is decongested, Mumbai’s traffic problems cannot be fully solved.
From Bandra Sea Link, a tunnel will be created that will connect BKC and another that will take the traffic directly to Mumbai Airport. “The aim of this tunnel is to decongest BKC and ensure people reach the airport in minimum time,” Fadnavis added.
Asked when all these dreams would come true, the CM assured that all the promises given and projects started to decongest the city`s traffic will be completed by 2032.
Further speaking about close-door railway rakes, Fadnavis stated that in Mumbai all trains will have close-door services. “Train services will be like the metro, but without increasing any fares,” Fadnavis mentioned.
Speaking about NextGen participation in politics, the CM categorically mentioned that BJP will be giving opportunities to youngsters in the coming corporation elections. “I cannot comment about other parties, but for BJP people will certainly witness new and young faces getting party tickets to contest civic elections,” Devendra mentioned.
Not a single charge of corruption
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while replying to a question on corruption, stated that in the last 11 years there has not been a single charge of corruption on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Earlier (read prior to 2014) there used to be change in every government; multiple parties led governments to be formed, and charges of corruption were seen. But corruption has no place in the Modi-led government.
Not a single allegation of corruption has been levelled. This is the kind of change one is witnessing. Stable and corruption-free government under the leadership of honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” Fadnavis added.
