Akola farmer’s son writes to Sharad Pawar seeking help to find a bride

In an unusual appeal that has drawn widespread attention in Maharashtra, a 34-year-old farmer’s son from Akola district has written to NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, seeking help not for employment or financial support, but for a wife.

The handwritten letter, submitted to Pawar during his recent visit to Akola, has since gone viral on social media. In it, the man openly expresses his struggle to find a life partner despite multiple attempts. “I’m getting older, and it now feels like I may never get married. Please consider my loneliness and help me find a life partner. I’m even ready to become a ghar jamai. I promise to work hard and be a good husband,” he wrote.

The appeal underscores a growing social concern in rural Maharashtra, particularly in parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha, where many families reportedly hesitate to marry their daughters to men engaged in farming due to financial stress, erratic income, and rising agricultural uncertainties. As a result, several young men in the region—especially those without stable jobs—struggle to find brides well into their 30s.

According to reports, the youth included his address and mobile number in the letter, expressing a deep sense of isolation. He said he was willing to marry a woman from any caste or community and even live at his wife’s home if needed. “I will work hard, keep her happy, and never forget your favour,” the note reads.

While the unusual request has sparked amusement online, it has also triggered conversations about the socio-economic pressures faced by rural bachelors. There has been no official response from Sharad Pawar or his office so far, but the letter continues to circulate widely, generating both sympathy and debate over the challenges it highlights.

Fadnavis should conduct probe, bring out facts: Sharad Pawar on land deal linked to grandnephew

Meanwhile, citing Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar on Saturday supported a probe into the controversial land deal allegedly linked to the company of his grandnephew Parth Pawar.

“The chief minister has said publicly that the matter is serious. So he should conduct a probe and put the facts before society,” Pawar told reporters.

The controversy pertains to the alleged illegal sale of 40 acres of government land in Pune`s Mundhwa area, reportedly worth around Rs 1,800 crore, which Opposition leaders claim was purchased by a company linked to Parth, son of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, for only Rs 300 crore with a stamp duty waiver.

Ajit Pawar has distanced himself from the transaction.

When asked if his nephew Ajit Pawar is being targeted politically by allies in Mahayuti, the senior Pawar said, “I wouldn`t know”.

Sharad Pawar also appeared not to agree with his daughter and NCP MP Supriya Sule`s remarks on Parth. Sule had said she didn`t think Parth would do anything wrong.
