Chhattisgarh: 13-year-old girl drowns two minor cousins in well after ‘thief’ taunt

Two young siblings drowned after allegedly being pushed into a well by their 13-year-old cousin, reportedly enraged after being called a “thief,” news agency PTI reported, quoting the police on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday in Jhuranadi village under Chhuikhadan Police Station limits in Chhattisgarh’s Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai (KCG) district.

The victims were identified as four-year-old Karan Verma and his sister Vaishali, 2, the children of a local resident, Gajanand Verma. The accused girl has been detained, police said.

According to investigators, the teenager told police that Karan had repeatedly called her a chor (thief), which angered her. In a fit of rage, she allegedly pushed both the two children into a well located in a vegetable garden in the village.

When the children went missing, their parents and other villagers began searching for them. During the search, the body of Vaishali was spotted floating in the well.

Villagers pulled her out and later drained the well using a motor pump, recovering Karan’s body as well.

Following a complaint filed by the victims’ father, police registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chhuikhadan police station, an official said.

The case comes highlights another juvenile crime in recent days. Last week, a woman in Himachal Pradesh died after a sexual assault attempt by a minor. The Class 9 student was detained by the police later.
