Mumbai weather updates: City records ‘moderate’ AQI; light rainfall expected

After experiencing light spells of rain during the early days and clear skies during the midweek, Mumbai on Friday experienced a hazy morning. With partly cloudy conditions on November 7, weather agencies on Friday predicted partly cloudy conditions.  

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms in the evening. While indicating rain during the late hours of Friday, the IMD has also predicted moderate rains lashing the parts of the Mumbai suburbs during the late hours on Friday. 

As per IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai are likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius. 

Mumbai’s AQI recorded as `Moderate`

Amid the concerning air quality index all across the country, Mumbai on Friday saw a sudden decline in the air quality index. During the early hours of Friday, Mumbai’s AQI was recorded at 130. Despite observing good air quality with less smog in the last few days, the city now experiences concerning air quality. On Friday, November 7, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality is in the `moderate` category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 130 at 9.05 AM. 

The inclination in the AQI of Mumbai was observed due to the rising air pollutants on the two days after the night of ‘Dev Diwali’, which was celebrated on the night of November 5. 

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed `moderate` AQI. Kurla, CSIA, Powai, Vasai and Mazgaon recorded `good` air quality, with an AQI of 102, 133, 121, 143 and 146, respectively.

Meanwhile, Borivali, Worli, Sion and Colaba recorded `good` and ‘satisfactory’ air quality, with an AQI of 94, 96, 83 and 53, respectively.

However, Vile Parle recorded a poor AQI with ‘212’.

According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the `moderate` category with an AQI of 136, while Thane registered a `good` AQI of 112.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered `good`, 100 to 200 `moderate`, 200 to 300 `poor`, 300 to 400 `very poor` and 400 to 500 or above `severe`.
