Mumbai Police raids godown, seize banned hookah flavours orth over Rs 3 cr

Mumbai Police have seized a large stock of banned nicotine-containing hookah flavours imported from abroad, following a raid on a warehouse in Chinchbunder in Mandvi area of south Mumbai, officials said on Wednesday.

In the raid, a total of 1,831 boxes of hookah flavours with an estimated value of Rs 3,01,92,636 were seized by the police, they said.

According to the police, the action was carried out by Unit 1 of the Mumbai Crime Branch based on intelligence inputs that the warehouse at Anand Rao Surve Road in Umar Khadi in Mandvi area of south Mumbai was storing and distributing banned hookah flavours across.

Sachin Sushilkumar Suri (49), the owner of the warehouse and the distribution business, was found storing the nicotine hookah flavours without legal warnings or permits, police said.

It said that the police said the products bore decorative packaging but lacked statutory health warnings, making the stock illegal.

A case has been registered at Dongri Police Station and further investigations were underway, said an official.

He said that the seizure was conducted under the supervision of senior police officials.
