BMC partners with Rangeet to launch SEEK program in Mumbai schools

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has partnered with Rangeet, a social enterprise focused on life skills and wellbeing, to introduce the Social Emotional and Ecological Knowledge (SEEK) program in BMC schools.

This initiative, approved by the Deputy Education Officer and supported by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Education), reflects BMC’s forward-looking vision of nurturing emotionally intelligent, socially aware and environmentally responsible citizens, ensuring that every child in Mumbai’s municipal schools is prepared not just for exams, but for life.

Rangeet hopes to gradually integrate SEEK into the network of over 1,100 BMC schools, which serve more than 3 lakh students across Mumbai.

“The BMC is committed to building a stronger, future-ready Mumbai, and this begins with our children. Our efforts can be seen in state-of-the-art smart classrooms and inspiring teachers who facilitate offering the best education to our students across various boards: SSC, ICSE, IGCSE, CBSE and IB.

Through Rangeet’s SEEK curriculum, we’re enabling our students to develop future-ready skills: empathy, confidence, critical thinking, digital citizenship and responsibility – qualities that define strong learners, better Mumbaikars and a harmonious society.” said Dr Prachi Jambhekar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Education), BMC, Mumbai.

Aligned with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023, SEEK nurtures knowledge, voice and agency around mental, emotional and physical well being, mindful and safe digital practices, societal equity and the climate crisis. Integrated seamlessly into subjects such as languages, science, social studies and environmental studies, it transforms traditional classrooms into joyful spaces of curiosity and compassion.

The SEEK program complements BMC’s ongoing student well being initiatives, from health and hygiene awareness to digital safety and life skills training.

The program rollout has begun with one-hour training sessions for teachers, empowering them to deliver the SEEK© curriculum with confidence and depth. Implementation will be closely coordinated with BMC’s education department with Rangeet’s digital evaluation tools to ensure consistency and measurable impact.

The initiative kicked off at the inauguration of the new BMC Malvani Township School, where Rangeet co-founders Simran Mulchandani and Karishma Menon conducted an engaging presentation. Students participated with enthusiasm, discovering how stories, songs, and games can build empathy, resilience, and ecological responsibility.
