Maharashtra: History-sheeter involved in over 100 theft cases held in Pune

The Navi Mumbai police have arrested a 47-year-old history sheeter involved in over 100 cases of theft from Pune, officials said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.

The accused was identified as Sajjad Garibsha Irani, who was staying in a plush Kingston Atlantis Residential project in the Kondhwa area, an official said.

“The crime branch team of the Navi Mumbai police apprehended the accused involved in over 100 cases of thefts and conning people by posing as a policeman,” said Ajaykumar Landge, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), reported PTI.

A 68-year-old Kharghar resident was duped by the accused, who fled with his gold ornaments in July.

During the probe of the case, the police analysed the CCTV footage of Lonavala and Pimpri Chinchwad area for 25 days and zeroed in on the bike used in the crime, he said, reported PTI.

After obtaining details of the accused, the police reached his residence in the Kondhwa area on October 10, where they found that Irani`s wife was possessing 1,168 grams of gold ornaments valued over Rs 1.25 crore, he said, reported PTI.

During the investigation, Irani was apprehended by the crime branch team on October 28 and brought to Navi Mumbai. He was sent to police custody till November 6, he said.

Teenager stabbed to death on busy street in Pune; three minors held

In another incident, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Pune on Tuesday, following which three teenagers were detained, police said, reported PTI.

The incident, which was a fallout of an old enmity, took place near Maharana Pratap Garden located on Bajirao Road in the heart of the city, reported PTI.

“A teenager, who was going on his motorbike with his friend, was stabbed to death with sharp weapons. Three accused were identified and they were taken into custody. We have also recovered a weapon that was used in the murder,” an official of Khadak police station said, reported PTI.

All the accused, as well as the deceased, were residents of the Parvati area. The reason behind the murder is a previous old enmity, he said.

“The three accused, the deceased and his friend were below 18 years of age. None of them is related to any gang. These are just rogue elements,” he added, reported PTI.
