Zohran Mamdani has scripted history after being elected the new Mayor of New York City, becoming the first-ever Muslim mayor of city. At 34 years, Mamdani is also the youngest person to win the mayoral election in a century. For the unversed, he is the son of acclaimed Indian filmmaker Mira Nair. Following his win, Mamdani delivered a victory speech. However, what caught the attention of Desis was the choice of the song as his speech ended.
Zohran Mamdani ends his victory speech with Dhoom Machale
Zohran, a Democratic socialist, won the mayoral election based on a progressive agenda. He defeated the former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the process. After the electoral poll results were declared, Zohran Mamdani, on Wednesday, addressed the people of NYC with a winning speech.
He quoted the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, in his speech, saying, “Standing before you, I think of the words of Jawaharlal Nehru – a moment comes, but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation long suppressed finds utterance.”

He added, “My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty,” Mamdani declared to a roaring crowd at his victory party. “I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life, but let tonight be the final time I utter his name as we turn the page on a politics that abandoned the many and answers only to the few.”
“We won because New Yorkers allowed themselves to hope that the impossible could be made possible, and we won because we insisted that no longer would politics be something that is done to us. Now, it is something that we do,” he went on to say.
Mamdani further said, “We will fight for you; because we are you. Today we have spoken in a clear voice, hope is alive.”
As Mamdani ended his victory speech, the song Dhoom Machale from the Bollywood movie Dhoom started to play in the background. Mamdani was accopanied on stage with his wife Rama Duwaji and mother Mira Nair.
